Richard Slayman, de 62 anos, o primeiro ser humano vivo a receber um rim de porco geneticamente modificado durante um transplante, nos Estados Unidos, recebeu alta hospitalar nesta quarta-feira (3). Ele afirmou em uma publica\u00e7\u00e3o nas redes sociais que h\u00e1 muitos anos n\u00e3o se sentia t\u00e3o saud\u00e1vel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A cirurgia in\u00e9dita, comandada pelo m\u00e9dico brasileiro Leonardo V. Riella, foi realizada no dia 16 de mar\u00e7o em um hospital em Boston. Durante uma entrevista, muito emocionado, o cirurgi\u00e3o disse que a equipe trabalhou meses para que o transplante fosse bem-sucedido, e que era uma emo\u00e7\u00e3o muito grande ver Slayman ir para casa com o rim funcionando.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ele foi diagnosticado com uma doen\u00e7a renal em est\u00e1gio avan\u00e7ado. De acordo com os m\u00e9dicos, ele vive com diabetes tipo 2 e hipertens\u00e3o e fazia di\u00e1lise havia sete anos. O paciente chegou a receber um transplante de um rim de outra pessoa em 2018, mas o \u00f3rg\u00e3o falhou cinco anos depois. Em 2023, ele voltou a depender de di\u00e1lise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
